Originally founded by the USSU, the USSU Childcare Centre now operates independently as an affiliated organization with a separate Board of Directors. It is government subsidized and licensed for 66 children aged six months to six years and exists primarily to serve the needs of undergraduate students.
However, the Centre will also take the children of graduate students, staff, and faculty, if the children of undergraduates have not taken all the available spaces. Nutritious snacks and a hot lunch are provided daily for children 18 months to 6 years and age. The staff is fully qualified with a minimum of a two-year diploma from the Early Childhood Education program. They are experienced and well trained. A wide variety of activities are offered that are specifically planned to encourage all areas of development for each child. Optional parent-paid swim and music programs are also available.
The USSU Childcare Centres are beautiful facilities offering little ones the best in care, play, and safety. Convenient drop-off and pick-up parking is available. Child-sized bathroom fixtures and furniture promote independence and learning. The Centres provide a separate infant area end; open concept play areas for older children, as well as a park-like fenced outdoor play area.
