U-Pass Opt-out Criteria

U-Pass (Universal Transit Pass)

If you qualify to apply for an opt-out of U-Pass, please fill out the online form, the U-Pass administrator will review your request and contact you via your official U of S email account (abc123@usask.ca) only if there is any information missing.

Opt-Out Criteria

To qualify for opting out of the U-Pass, you must meet one of the three following criteria:

1. Students living outside the corporate limits for the City of Saskatoon

If you live outside Saskatoon City limits, but within 50 km of Saskatoon, and are commuting/driving to campus, we require an electronic copy of:

  • Your valid driver’s license showing your name and your out of town address.

If you live over 51 km outside of Saskatoon, and are commuting/driving to campus, we will require the electronic copies of:

  • Your valid driver’s license showing your name and your out of town address; and
  • Two (2) pieces of official* mail in your name (with your out of town address), dated within the last 30 days.

The over 51 km rule does not apply to your “home” address. For example, if you originally come from another location anywhere in the world but are presently residing in Saskatoon to attend university, you are not eligible for an exemption.

*Note: Examples of the official mail in your name include: utility or telephone bills, bank and credit card statements,  official correspondence with the University or government, student loans, or a bill from the city in which you live, all dated within 30 days of opt-out application. A valid lease or rental agreement with your name and out-of-town address will also be accepted as one of the two (2) pieces of mail.

2. Students holding a disabilities parking permit or have a disability that prevents them from using  U-Pass

If you are holding a Saskatchewan or U of S Accessible Parking Permit, you will be required to submit the electronic copies of the following:

  • Saskatchewan or U of S Accessible Parking Permit

If you have other disability claims, we will require the electronic copies of:

  • A doctor’s certificate indicating an inability to ride the bus

3. Students living in on-campus residences (Ogle Hall, Voyageur Place Residence, Lutheran Theological Seminary and St. Andrew’s ONLY)

Opt-out for students living on-campus (Ogle Hall, Voyageur Place Residence, Lutheran Theological Seminary and St. Andrew’s ONLY), you will be required to submit the electronic copies of:

  • Your university residential agreement with your name and building listed.

Note: residences located within College Quarter, McEown Park and Graduate House along with personal dwellings located near the University DO NOT qualify for opt-outs.
